Dad hit a kangaroo on the way home. The roo was a big male, about 7 feet tall. Mum and Dad are lucky the animal bounced right over the top and didn't come through the windscreen.

They're okay, but the ute and the kangaroo are totalled.

Well, bugger. But the company needed a new truck anyway. Now the accountant will let us buy it.

for the loss of another rare creature in this world, there are so few creatures like that roo.

As I understand it, if it was one of the major species, there're millions and millions of creatures just like that roo. ;)

maybe then you need to have everyone close to you die, then you might understand that you're not superior to them. I would much rather the animals live than people.

welcome to reality then bub, too many people think that beacuse of things like the bible (a really lousy fairy tale), the koran (another good fairy tale), and too many narrow minded ideals to realize that we're not the rulers of this earth, and it's creatures and enviorment are not ours to screw with. I would much rather see 90% of the world population wiped out.

So, who are the rulers of this earth, then, if you're not going by the texts of the abrahamic religions? Animals? Well, son, we're animals too, and by "nature, red in tooth and claw," we've got better, bigger, metal-sheathed, ballistic claws.

As long as it's "other people", right? Unless you're going to go through with your threats of suicide when you run over baby deer I don't think you have the moral steadfastness to suggest that other people's loved ones should be wiped out when they express concern over them.

You've stated you don't feel animals are inferior to us. Since you've stated you'd rather have a human die than an animal, that leads me to believe you feel humans are inferior to animals in some respect, thus warranting our extermination rather than theirs.

As others have alluded to, this level of misanthropy is not consistent with your continued existence, so I am led to believe your position is a mere pose designed to provoke ire, a tactic commonly referred to as "stirring in shit."

oh I have lost loved ones, close to me, and yet people like you and the rest continue to procreate, and destroy the world, let me guess most of you drive a hummer or some other gas guzzling vehicle. I do more to help the animals of this world, and I have told those lazy bastards I see panhandling at stop signs to take a flying leap off of a tall building. I've seen what you people consider fair in this world, and your way of living has caused places like Love Field, Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and other man made toxic zones around the world. I consider it unfair to bring a human life into this world, while people like you can only drink beer, watch sports, and breed like some sort of disease.

I don;t care if his folks lived or died, and for the record I have felt empty inside since I accidentally killed a little fawn, and I've hated myself since for doing it, yet I keep going to help animals, since none of you will, if any of you claim to be of a Furry nature, then you all are the biggest bunch of hypocrites.

oh, and you all best look up what a sociopath is before you go slinging big words around.

Okay.

Over the years I have hit kangaroos, wallabies, possums, snakes, lizards, bats and any number of birds. Instead of feeling empty and hating myself and society, I felt sad that I couldn't prevent that animal from being killed.

I belong to WIRES (http://www.wires.org.au/) and have rescued and rehabbed more birds and animals than I can remember. Animals and brids that can't be rehabbed I euthanase. I do it myself - by hand. I hate it and it makes me feel crappy but it has to be done, because that death is faster and preferable to the one nature had intended.

I am a conservationist and environmentalist and I would love to see the world's human population stop growing. I would also love to see every feral cat, dog, fox, rabbit, pig, goat, horse, donkey, starling, mynah, pigeon and cane toad EXTERMINATED from the face of this continent.

The car I drive is a 2-wheel drive sedan that gets 40mpg. The truck in the photo is also 2 wheel drive, and is full of tools and equipment. We don't take kids to soccer in it; we use it to build pollution control systems.

I lke anthropomorphic animals, comics, cartoons, books. I have more Bat-related items around my home than would be considered normal. I write furry stories, and dragon stories. I am a Furry. I also like beer.

This is also my journal. I don't like anti-human sentiment. It is one aspect of Furries and Otherkin that really gives me the shits.

Oh, yes, "the rest of you," the great, nebulous enemy that you can have to make you feel good about yourself. You know nothing about me, and you can't blame me for the actions of my forefathers or the actions of those around the world from me. It's nice that you've managed to formulate this image of me that is almost completely antipodal to what I actually am. (Though I do drink beer, but not pisswater.)

Now, on to the sociopathy. I know what a sociopath is, and you certainly woul;d get a higher than average score on the PCL-R test if I go by my brief interaction with you.

Lessee ... Grandiose sense of self-worth. I'll give you a 2, since you think that you're the only person who has some right to live. Lack of remorse or guilt -- I'll give you a 2, because, frankly, you're a ginormous asshole here who doesn't care about Den. Practically a textbook definition. Shallow affect? Yep. I'll give you a 1. Callousness and lack of empathy? Pft. 2. Parasitic lifestyle? Hrm. Well, you are 34 and wanting to work at Wal-mart 'cause it'd evidently be a step up...but I, unlike you, understand how that could happen to anyone. No score. Poor behavioral control? Certainly, but I can't say to what degree, so I'll give you a 1. Promiscuous behavior? I could be a dick and use your membership to a poly community against you, but I won't, and know nothing else. No score. Lack of realistic, long-term goals? 2. You want to work at Wal-Mart 'cause it'll be a step up. Impusivity ... well, we're at the point we're at. You get a 1 automatically. Failure to accept responsibility for your own actions? I'll give a 1 because of your hypocritical nature, and I'll explain -that- later. I've left out ones I simply can't judge on. You've scored 12 out of 40, which, while not a textbook sociopath, is more than double the score of the average population.

Wow. Considering the original post, you're a consummate asshole. Guess it would've been better for Den's parents to get ganked than the roo?

No, wait. Even not considering the original post, you're still a monumental dick. I should have everyone close to me die so that I will "understand that [I'm] not inferior to" animals? Well, gee, thanks for wishing death upon a bunch of intelligent, feeling human beings so that you can feel good about feeling bad about some stupid overgrown jumping-rat dying.

You've evidently never had someone truly close to you die; either that, or you're one of those pitiful, warped people generally labeled as "sociopaths". Otherwise you'd realise what a fundamentally stupid, stupid thing you've just said, and you'd commence kicking your own teeth out in penance.

If you'd rather animals live than people, I would respectfully suggest that you "think globally, act locally," starting with yourself.

And yet, somehow, you continue to let yourself live.

Or does hanging around to wish death on peoples' parents justify your existence?

Oh I dunno, the sooner the class of "roos who can't/don't dodge trucks" goes extinct the better, so long as all roos don't fit into the class.

I just wish the local possums would learn to stay OFF the freeway... :(

Tell me about it. Possums seem to be particularly dumb when it comes to crossing roads; only squirrels generally outnumber them in roadkill status around here.

I hate the local deer, too. "Oh, look, a car's coming --let's run away RIGHT ACROSS ITS PATH, despite alternate routes in the other direction existing!" Thank god I know where they usually congregate, but I've had a couple of close calls.

The worst I've (almost) run into are emus; they like to graze on the road verges (the bitumen collects water and delivers it to the side, so out in the arid areas you get a tiny bit more greenery by the road than elsewhere), they're sufficiently inattentive that they'll fail to notice an approaching vehicle until it's almost on top of them, and their standard response to any threat is "run straight forwards at full speed".

Since they're usually facing the road at the time, this works nicely to bring them into the path of whatever it was that startled them. I once missed one by about an inch, while riding at 140km/h west of Broken Hill...

I'm always off the road by dusk meself (barring emergency; I once had to spend a hair-raising half hour at dusk in outback Queensland, dodging half a dozen 'roos, assorted birds and a few cows).

'Roos may dent cars, but on a bike they sting a bit.

(speaking of roadtrains, my brother once saw a roadkilled camel in WA...)

Eastern Grey Kangaroo. They're unique to Australia but they outnumber human Australians 2:1, and there are even more red kangaroos.

It was a big male so there's no joey orphan to take care of. A big buck stays at the top of his mob* for 3, maybe 4 years, before a young buck fights him off and drives him away. The stress of losing the fight and mob usually kills the old buck in a few weeks. I think this bloke has already spread his genes around.

*MOB is the correct collective noun for a bunch of kangaroos.
