Today we will have smoked trout, flounder and bream.

Yesterday I was told by my neighbours that they stand on their back verandah and smell my smoking, and get very hungry. I may have to invite them in one day for a meal. I really don't want crazed pensioners climbing over the back fence, screaming for meat.

My OAP neighbours are doing okay, but the smell of smoking pork chops is too much.

Fire good. Fire cook MEAT! Hehe.

Speaking of hot things, the wildfires down there seem to have fallen off my newsfeeds I read. Have they been wiped out yet?

There are still 8 uncontrolled fires but there are no communities under threat, and no more fatalities.

That reminds me of an SCA event ages ago now. I made a chicken soup from scratch and somehow failed to realize I had brought NOTHING to put said soup in when finished. It was give away 5 quarts of fresh made soup or just lose it so I sought the lads camped nearby to ask if they were interested.
Turns out I had also failed to notice I was tormenting them all day while it cooked. The breeze from the lake had been blowing the smell of the chook across these five 18 and 19 year old boys noses the entire day and they were out of food. First event for the lot of them together and ALL they brought for a five day camping event was hamburger meat and hot dogs. The meat went bad in the the heat on day two and they were out of bread on day three... this was day four and NOTHING but hot dogs for the lot of them.
I'm still viewed by the bunch as a Goddess and hold lifetime position as their "den mother".
Hehe.
Who knows? If you feed the neighbors you are torturing, they may well adopt and put you in their will!

At the moment I'm just using hickory and mesquite chips I buy in packets from Barbecues Galore. The owner of the store ordered two and grabbed one for himself (BBQG have the Weber franchise) so he makes sure there is a good stock of smoking chips.

On Monday I'll be heading down to a local orchard to ask about lumps of apple wood.
