Date: 13 Jun 2004 17:29 (UTC)Then I created a black mask with white triangles where the mountains were, blurred it a lot and saved it as bumpmap.bmp.
In POVRay I created a heightfield that used bumpmap.bmp to create the bumps, with white as the highest point and black as the lowest. Then I applied map.bmp to the heightfield as a texture. When it lines up properly you get bumps occuring where a mountains are drawn. This is accentuated by putting a bright diffuse light off the the right so that the east side is brighter than the west.
Total time 1 hour, most of which was taken creating the bumpmap. Rendering took 5 minutes.

I could put some material that would look like paint on it for you maybe. I'll think about it.
