Oh, bugger! I forgot about getting you the city names! Sorry, Den!

I have tomorrow off, so I'll get it to you then; it shouldn't take too long. I'll also make them more legible, as you've misspelled some of the the country names, as well. ;)

Do you do that by hand, or are you using map-drawing software?

The font I'm using is Beowolf1 which uses the archaic lettering system. G is very angular and could be mistaken for E, and W looks like a P so GREENSWARD looks like EREENSPARD. Which font did you use?

I also made a big mistake by lettering it then adding the yellow, which dulled the red a lot. I'll do it the other way around next time so the names are more distinct.

Matt Trepal sent me his map and I blotted out all the hills and mountains he drew, then replaced them with the ones you see here to give a 3Dish effect. Saved as map.bmp

Then I created a black mask with white triangles where the mountains were, blurred it a lot and saved it as bumpmap.bmp.

In POVRay I created a heightfield that used bumpmap.bmp to create the bumps, with white as the highest point and black as the lowest. Then I applied map.bmp to the heightfield as a texture. When it lines up properly you get bumps occuring where a mountains are drawn. This is accentuated by putting a bright diffuse light off the the right so that the east side is brighter than the west.

Total time 1 hour, most of which was taken creating the bumpmap. Rendering took 5 minutes.

Have you every tried Blender 3D? It is also free opensource, but I like it better then POV Ray, it seems easier to use.

I've looked at it but never really got into it. I don't know why.

Ah. Have you seen some of my recent work? Do you think I'm improving?
That map is cool looking by the way.

I have, and I think you are! What happened to the Monitor? Is it finished? I want to see it! I'm inspired to have a go at The Great Eastern or something large and steam-powered, maybe after I finish this series of exams.

I think the texture on your Mazda needs to be less diffuse to make it look like polished duco.

I'm stuck on the Monitor class ship. I put it aside until I learn more. I thought I would build a car maybe that would be easier.

Oh that is funny dude. LOL Less diffuse. LOL Uh I'm not putting any material on the car until I get the model done. It does not have any material applied to it yet. Those are base colors.

I could put some material that would look like paint on it for you maybe. I'll think about it.

nah that's cool. I didn't know that was a base texture.
