Date: 26 May 2004 20:12 (UTC)I have never had a package of TimTams.
Snickers bars are good, but the are not TimTams.
I'll have to see about making my own *real* Violet Crumble.
*sniff*

Date: 27 May 2004 01:55 (UTC)Tim Tams (and Violet Crumble and Cherry Ripe) are available from a few mail-order places in the USA. Have a look at Everything Australian in Little Rock, Arkansas, Australian Products in Santa Clara, CA, and Agape Outback Unlimited in Leavenworth, WA. (Caution: The Agape web site drives my copy of Mozilla crazy).
In 2001, Arnotts did a trial marketing of Tim Tams in 400 stores in California with Tim Tams marketed with the name "Double Trouble". There was no advertising, and they were relying on word of mouth to spread the news. AFAIK, the project was abandoned.
About 10 years ago, I noticed cartons of Violet Crumble bars in a Bay Area Trader Joe's. I haven't seen them in any Trader Joe's store since.
Re: cock-ees? Oh, "cookies!"
Date: 27 May 2004 08:23 (UTC)If you grew up in the midwestern U.S., you might be fond of "mountain oysters" (fried testicles -- no kidding!). If you grew up in the deep south, you might like chitterlings (pronounced "chittlens") which are fried intestines. If you were Mexican, you might consider fried cactus worms ("agave worms") a delicacy. If you were Norwegian, you might be fond of lutefisk (fish jellified in natural lye -- it has the consistency of lumpy Jello and smells like... well, use your imagination). Funny thing is that if you are a Norwegian-American, and not raised in Norway, you'd be statistically likely to despise lutefisk.
So, I guess all things considered, Vegemite is probably the least of all evils.
And yes, Tim-Tams *are* on my diet, as long as I don't eat too many at one time.
