Miscelaneous photos. Tomorrow I'll post what I took on the way home.

But first, I forgot to post this one yesterday. It's the inside of one of the 6 oil storage tunnels built during the air raids of 1942. It is 3m wide, 5m high and 171m long.

Brolgas, Australia's only crane.

Male bustard. They are common around central Queensland, and extinct everywhere else.

Gecko. Having one of these drop on you during the night causes much leaping and Aargh!ing.

Treefrogs. Geckos and treefrogs are threatened by the cane toad, which has finally reached Darwin.

Heh. Who needs guard dogs, when you have guard crocs? I'd put those signs up just to keep tresspassing fishing morons out of my ponds! Of course, then I'd have to contend with would-be croc poachers. *Sigh*

Any more word on Irwin, BTW? I'm glad he could at least tell the difference between a chicken and a baby. }:xD ("Why am I holding this chicken in one hand? Oh! Krikie! I gave 'im the wrong thing! Bloody Hell!")

Steve has been a little quiet lately.

He knew what he was doing. His kids will be growing up around dangerous animals so they have to become familliar with them eventually. 1 month old might be a little early.

The video you see all the time is deceptive and looks bad. Videos from other angles show Steve had his body between the croc and the baby at all times. And in the "running on the ground" bit there was a pool between the croc and baby, and Steve was watching the animal all the time. He's really pissed off that anyone would think he'd do anything that would endanger his kids. He loves them so much he cried on national telly while talking about them.

I keep putting shit on him, but Steve Irwin has my respect.

Heehee. I figured that he knew what he was doing around those critters. He must; he's still got all his arms and legs! I smelled a media rat the minute that very short video was aired, and I know how camera angles can deceive. From what I've heard about him, he's devoted to animals as well as his kids. I hope he comes out of it ok...
