I just want to mention that the Superbowl received no coverage here, and that one of the 3 news services I watch actually mentioned it.

Speaking of tits...

We have pay-TV channels that innundate us with "Australian rules football," and you can even purchase a series of English Cricket and Soccer games, but *you* barely see mention of our greatest drunkathon sport event? Heh. All you missed were some funny furry commercials -- oh, and Janet Jackson's booby.

Hmmm. Yet more reasons I'd like to move to Australia. That and the fact that living in the outback would remind me of San Diego, California. 'Specially all the bleedin' Eucalyptus trees. }:xD

The ads wouldn't be broadcast here. The Pepsi one, maybe, but the others wouldn't. I can't stand and don't watch AFL. Aerial PingPong is a silly game. I much prefer Rugby Union, Soccer and Rugby League (in that order). I'll watch Cricket if Australia plays.

And this is where gum trees come from. 8) Give me a home among the gum trees.

Ah, rugby. I covered some amateur finals for my newspaper years ago in San Diego. Much carnage, and one guy dropped dead of a heart attack in the middle of a match. Actually, nobody noticed for a while. }:xD My favorite rugby match was the one between the students and the Masters in Monty Python's "Meaning of Life."

Yes, "Give me a home, where the q-alas roam, and the wombats and the dingos do play..." I have three of them in my front yard. Damn, they shed skin like a lizard. There are hundreds of thousands of them in San Diego because some bright mind thought that a tree that grows well in a desert would make great railroad tie stock. Until they figured out that they warp horribly and rot when they are dried and then get wet. D'oh!

Why would the ads not be allowed on OZ TV Batty?

The ads for products not sold here would be replaced with ads for the local market. Looking at your Top 10 list, 7Up and Mastercard ads would be shown, but none of the others would air. The channel most likely to show it (SBS, who broadcasts all sorts of weird sports) would show IBM ads, Subaru ads and the "Bloody Volvo driver" Volvo ads.

Superbowl aint the ratings puller it is over there. Sorry, bloke.

"Give me a home among the gum trees
With lots of plum trees
A sheep or two and a kangaroo.
Clothes line out the back
Verandah round the front
And an old Rocking chair!"
Bullamakanka.

I bet the bright spark didn't realize the best wood for railway sleepers comes from the ironbark tree, not your average eucalypt. I bet they also didn't realize gum trees love to burn.

Ah, I was wondering rather if the ad content was the problem, not the products pitched. Flaming horse farts and what not might offend delicate OZ sensibilities and what not ;-)

It can't be too bad, it was actually televised twice, always is especially when SBS have it (as they have for at least the last 2 years).. Once live at 10am and a replay at 10:30pm slightly cut down..

Some of the ads will make it out here.. and most will be seen by alot of people on the net anyway. pfft who has time to watch TV.

For some bizarre reason, it was playing in the NOC where I work (yes, it was broadcast on SBS), on the big screens that (sometimes) have network monitors displayed. I guess it was the only sport on.

Just think, these are your tax dollars hard at work ;-)

Any jobs going for geeks with experience but no qualifications?

Have you looked at http://www.psgazetteonline.gov.au/ws/PSEOSearch.asp ? If you are looking for an APS job, this is THE place to look. If you're specifically looking for a defence.gov.au job, then take a look at http://www.defence.gov.au/dcr/ although there doesn't seem to be much around at the moment.

And it seems to me that in the APS, experience counts a lot more than qualifications, as long as you meet the selection criteria.

By the way, a security clearance is a pain in the arse to get :-/
