Snakes and Lizards
14 February 2009 13:05Many photos after the cut.
The two snakes were bruised in accidents and spent time in rehab. They recovered and were released.
A small nocturnal snake known as a bandi bandi. They are common but not often seen. Plus, they are venomous but only a danger to legless lizards, their main food.

This fully grown bandi bandi is 18 inches long.

Yellow faced whip snake. A tiny, full grown snake, venomous like the bandi bandi but only a threat to tiny wall skinks. This little fellow is 24 inches long and almost as thick as a pencil.

Adult blue tongue lizard rescued from a back yard and relocated to somewhere safe. At some point in his past he lost all his toes. The injury is very old and doesn't seem to affect his life in the wild. He was very fat, heavy, and healthy. And grumpy and bitey.

Date: 15 Feb 2009 21:52 (UTC)Advice needed for Pee wee chick in Dubbo (Firgrove)
Date: 16 Feb 2009 04:26 (UTC)I am out at Firgrove Estate, Dubbo
I need advice about a Pee Wee chick I am rearing.
We have a family that have lived here for years and rear babies each season. They feed daily on our catfood outside.
They kicked their 2 babies out of the nest to begin their new life but one baby was not quiet ready. We put it back up the tree with its sibling on a branch. They were both there the next morning. That evening though, after 42deg, we found the smaller one in our vegie garden on the straw heap. I have been feeding it insectivore mix and it is going well. I tried to release it back to its family after 2 days but they were not interested. So it lives flying around ontop of the kitchen cupboards pooping all over the place!
It is wanting to feed more often so I am guessing it is ready for more solid food- maybe meal worms or mince????? What do you suggest?
Also when its time to release it do I do it here as it was born here and when do I release it age wise? If I do it now it will die wont it as it doesnt know how to eat? Lots of questions sorry!
Keen to hear from you.
Regards, Rachel
