They x-rayed my head and didn't find anything

Test on the biopsy showed the sample came from a benign fibro-adenoma. The lab has one more test to confirm that it is benign. Dr Nelson-Marshall (Certificate of Diving Medicine and Member of the Australasian Aeronautical Medicine Association) says the the leaky nipple is just dilated ducts. And the rash is probably a reaction to elastoplast on hot, sweaty skin.


...but...

I have a leaky nipple. It could be a sign of a soft cell duct carcinoma. And the rash could be a sign of a type of cancer in the skin of the nipple. And she's a bit worried that one of my grandmothers died of breast cancer back in the day when radiation therapy consisted of lying under a lead sheet with a hole cut to expose the target area to a block of cobalt fresh from the core of the Lucas Heights reactor. It's rare in men, but not unheard of.

So I'm going to a specialist some time next week. He will be able to tell me if all these Ifs are NOTs.

Dr Nelson-Marshall also asked if I really wanted boobs. "NO! Well yes but not on me. Well, yes, I want that, but not attached to me." She has asked the specialist to consider if I should undergo a double manboobectomy to remove the breast tissue because of the possible breast cancer risk plus I don't actually need the breast tissue because, well, bloke.

Checking is a good thing. Do you have gynomastoma? Or just regular man boobs? Getting your breasts removed seems like it would be a traumatic experience and is not something I would undertake lightly. I do hope that its nothing though. Your poor boobs have been through a lot, and they don't even have blue feet!

My 14 year old daughter has had some similar issues and so far nothing serious has turned up. It has cleared up now and aside from occasional pain that we're told is 'normal,' she's fine.

I'm sorry you're having to put up with these worries. Better they catch it now, when it's just starting out, than later when not as much can be done for it. Let them take the breast tissue off. Like you said, you don't really need it and it will reduce the risk of you ever developing cancer a lot.

I had a masectomy many many years ago to deal with my gynecomastia. Generally speaking I'm pleased with the results. Really my only issues are because I had it done before the science of plastic surgery was much more than "something you do for burn victims," so things aren't quite as handsome as they probably would be if I had it done today.

my plan for my scars is to say "that's where they started the autopsy, but I wasn't dead yet ... " (in tones of low menace).

seriously, it's essentially the same op I'll be having in 4.5 weeks. it pays to shop around for a good plastic surgeon, as there are aesthetics to the whole thing. It's not the same as the mastectomy that would be done for a female suffering from cancer, and scar placement is important.

I'm always nervous about such stuff. When I was ten, a doctor noted that my testicles weren't fully descended. To make it happen, I was given a hormone treatment of some sort, which resulted not only in causing my balls to drop but also to make me a prematurely hairy ten year-old. Men who had undescended testicles as boys are often prone to developing cancers involving the nads and sometimes breast cancer, too. If you have it, you're at least in good company with the late, great Tennessee Williams, who died not from that, but from choking on a bottle cap.
