Bob And Bat

Little Pugsley Bob has gone back to his primary carer. I am without echidna.

So have a video of Flynn the Goulds Wattled Bat eating meal worms.



The loud pops and crackles you can hear is his sonar being picked up by the camera mic. What the camera can't pick up is the high-pitched TING Flynn calls out at the worms. It's beyond the range of my hearing but I can feel it in the bones of my skull. Apparently wattled bats can hit 90db.

Flynn was found in the aircraft hangar of the Royal Flying Doctor Service. He has had a few days R&R&Meal Worms, and should be ready for release tonight or tomorrow night.

My guess is that the bat is called Flynn because of two things:

One: He was found in the Royal Flying Doctor Service Hangar

Two: John Flynn was the founder of the RFDS

I love the bit in the beginning where he's just sort of a gaping mouth in a black ball of head. Looks like a cartoon.

I have a small cloth tent with hanging strips inside for bats to cling to. He has room to stretch and flap but can't hurt himself.

Every time I've had close encounters with hunting bats in numbers, I could sense the ultrasound; it makes me feel like my earwax is melting.
