Echidna
Originally uploaded by battyden
An orphaned echidna puggle, approx 30 days old, 115 grams, currently in the care of my fellow rescuer, Mel. He is blind and deaf, and his fur and spines are little more than a 5 o'clock shadow.

The kids who found him on the mother's body named him "Bob."

I'm not sure what Mel has done, but it looks like Bob will be one of the few sub-150g successes we've had, and that includes the Zoo's efforts.

S/he/it's a cute little thing... for all that it is rather odd looking.

Best wishes to Bob.

When I here Bob now, I hear it the way Rowan Atkinson said it in that episode of Blackadder....

Wow, total bag of skin :) So weird. How long before the eyes and ears become pronounced, rather than just blips on their skin?

I'll have to give him some soft tissues to do practice rampages on.

Oh my heck. How can something so butt-ugly be so cute? Amazing, amazing, amazing - and my best wishes for Bob's survival and thriving.

Good luck, Bob the Puggle! To join the chorus, go, puggle, go! Mum interjects that she didn't know baby echidnas had a name and says, "Good luck, small echidna shaped thing!" Those are some of the most absurd photos I've seen all day. Thanks =D

My friend's hamster recently had babies and I thought nothing could look more like a weird blobby fetus thing than them. I stand corrected!

Good luck Bob :)
