If someone needs to use the shower or bath, the toilet is still free to use for those who need to go.

And that, to me, is WHY you keep the plumbing separate. Makes sense to me, to do it the Aussie way. It also makes more sense if you host a lot of parties and want more than one bathroom accessible, but want to keep the rest of your bath space more private.

About the only thing I take issue with is the Aussie loo where yes, there is a toilet in its own room, but NO SMALL SINK IN IT TOO. That seems to be incredibly stupid and unsanitary... you *should* be able to wash your hands right after using the toilet, and not need to wash your hands in another room.
