CSIRO researcher says his team has discovered a process to produce a biofuel using green waste, including household garden clippings and waste paper. They call it "biocrude oil". The team says it has the potential to replace conventional crude oil as well as the biofuels which are currently produced using plant crops like sugar and corn.

I don't think it's thermal depolymerization; they specify it uses plant material.

The only problem I see with this is con artists have been swindling people with snake oil machines to make crude oil from trash ever since the 1970s, if not earlier. That means this new process is going to face a lot of skepticism, whether it deserves it or not. And it may deserve it. I shall Await Developments. :)

The boffins at CSIRO do serious investigations before they announce things. This is still in the early stages; it could be 5 years before they develop something commercially viable.
