I have just done my first, non-lethal rescue of a little red flying-fox. She was badly tangled in loose nylon netting around a grape vine. The net had wrapped around her wings and neck, and she was not happy. She was even less happy with me, and bit my gloves and scratched at every opportunity. I cut her out with a chunk on net and grapevine attached, and took her to the zoo so they could knock her out and cut off the net.

No damage at all. Jodi the Vet will release her tonight.

While I was at the surgery, Timm The Vet was doing dental work on a maned wolf. That is one huge doggy!

This has come up before, but not here - In the US (and much of the rest of the world) Mountain Dew has 54 mg of caffeine in a 12 ounce/355 ml can. A decent kick without grinding beans and brewing a fresh pot.

But in Oz and NZ, unless it's a Cola or labelled as an "Energy Drink" they can't add any caffeine.

"Hi! We're from the Government, and we're here to help!..." >_<

Looks like a fox had a one-night-stand with a greyhound ;)

"Fox on Stilts" is one of the local names for these guys. They live on Pampas areas in South America, so the long legs are very useful for spotting prey/trouble in the long grass.

That's exactly what I thought the first time I saw one (at the zoo, sadly). They're amazing looking animals.

Very stinky. You should try one up close in a sealed room.
