Little red flying fox


She had a broken left wing and was missing a lot of membrane on her right wing. Timm the vet at Western Plains Zoo had to euthanase her.

The wings are living tissue, like our skin. They're full of capillaries and nerves. A tear is painful, but will heal naturally over time and leave a scar. Too much damage and the scar will pull the wing out of shape.

That's good. Because the skin is under pressure I wasn't sure if it could pull itself together to heal. I suppose that the edges heal first.
