Fritter is a juvenile, pre-flight western broadnosed bat. He'd fallen from his roost and was found by a fisherman. Fritter was hanging onto a bridge pylon about 10cm above the river. A hungry murray cod was circling below. Another few hours and Fritter would have been fish food. He was very thin and thirsty when I got him, so a quick feed of Biolact was in order.

My first bat for some time!

Right now he is in a recovery tent, hanging between strips of cloth.

Fritter, well fed and slightly happier.

Cute little bugger. What's the outlook like for him?

If the sudden change of diet agrees with him, the prognosis is rather good. At least he's lived on real milk until now, not that Forn Muck.

I'm impressed that the fisherman knew he was in trouble. I'd have just assumed that he was a bat, doing his batty thing and hanging out under the bridge waiting for night.

Saved from a watery grave!
Not nearly exotic as a beer bottle, by cod.
Go Fritter!

He's fantastic!

How much bigger will he get, if things go well?

Fully grown he will be 2x as big. They aren't a very large bat to start with.

Such a beautiful little guy! Bats have always been among my favorite creatures, even before I met you. I'm impressed that the fisherman went all out for this little guy. Sadly, most people in the US would have just left him for the fish.
