(Granted our beaches are nowhere near as good, which defeats the point of having an ocean nearby)

Since I live less than 2 miles (as the proverbial crow flies) from the Atlantic Ocean (and nowhere in Florida is all that far from salt water of some sort), I can only say: "Meh..."

Winnipeg is about as far as you can possibly get from an ocean in Canada. Upside: no danger of hurricanes or tidal waves!

I'm 400km from the sea. Plus, I don't get snow.

It does get a bit hot in Summer, though.

Google says we're 1004km from Churchill, MB, which is our closest ocean-access port (on the Hudson Bay).

Don't forget that's road miles, so you're likely a good bit closer as the crow flies when it sober!

Nope, that's straight line. There *are* no roads going into Churchill... You either have to take the train (which is out of service often because the tracks heave on the permafrost) or fly. :)

That's the beauty of living on an island, I suppose, even the world's largest one.

Hurmmm I'd have thought that in general the diameter of the continent (which while not 'round' per se is roundish), would be greater than 2000 km - but apparently I'm wrong...
