Would you mind translating into Stupid-American?

Cutty Sark is the last of the tea clippers, a type of boat that had a long narrow hull and was very fast and beautiful. She ran tea and spices from India to London at a time when tea was worth more per ounce than gold. Sometimes she ran wool and wheat from Australia to London; in fact she still holds the record for the fastest trip from Melbourne to London.

She was in permanent dry dock and undergoing restoration because she is the last relic of maritime history that we will never see again. Today arsonists set fire to her.

It looks like they can restore what was burned.

I hope so....

My other friend didn't report that. I certainly hope it's true. It would be a shame to completely lose the legacy.

Another friend of mine has pictures of the ship after the vandals got through with it.

Damned shame and a boneheaded move which proves nothing.

I have a fondness for tall ships in general, especially the cutters. Two of the American made ones from the same era regularly dock in Jacksonville at the riverside downtown. I always go to see them and there is NOTHING like seeing one of these beauties under full sail.

Idiots. Burning history is not cool.

It's fixable. Yay. :D

They are going to need to change that bell so it reads '1869-2007' :)

(Seriously, I'm sure they'll manage to repair it, and it was a mess anyhow but...)
