That's the first time I've had a second to read those "today's strip" posts. You're a talented graphic artist! Is that ya job? Or are you just a computer junkie (I think that's 21st century speak for 'l33t g33k' ;)

It's what I do on Saturday Afternoons while I'm stuck inside answering WIRES calls. 8)

ahhh i seeeee. I thought calls came into the head office on the weekends? I know I've certainly done my time in there and it's always been a weekend. Different region, different way of running?

Out here we have an 0500 number (0500844995) we pass to whoever is on phones that day, and anyone in the area who dials that will get straight onto us. We such a small branch we don't have a branch office. Or any office.

Crikey mate, this is one of my bugbears... ask any MOP who to ring if ya find an animal in distress and the answer is WIRES. We are so well known, yet there's holes to be filled like actually HAVING an office! here we cover sydney. Every suburb from the blue mountains to the coast. (I'm sure you know the parameters) yet we run out of a moveable school classroom! not even a building! Just shits me ya know, cos we do so much work to keep our wildlife around for the next generations, and the bloody govt. prefers to spend money on bombs and war! ugh! I've consciously had to be selective in my view of the big picture, cos if I look at how bad it is, I feel helpless. All I can do is my little part and hope that others do too. But we really need more publicity. We dont even have someone in that position atm here! we should be on sunrise/today tonight/ a current affair/ the news! crikey we need exposure!
*takes a deep breath*
mate, I get so worked up, so I try to stay focussed. Today I am saving animals, and sharing the joy of doing it with people like you. Lastnight another member came over with her flying fox (I'll post pics in the community later) and just to spend time with like-minded people is part of what keeps me going. I've educated our street, and my next challenge is the school I live across from. I want them to have a worm farm, compost heap and even be a soft release site. There's plenty of love in my lil part of the world. That keeps me sane in this crazy world. :)

Range? There are 30 of us in the Dubbo branch and we cover Wellington, Parkes Forbes, Narromine, Trangie, Warren, Bourke and technically we should do Broken Hill but Nat Parks deals with everything we send them out there. That's 1/3 of NSW and we don't even have a branch car. I do Saturday Arvos. One other person (HT I've mentioned her in this journal) does EVERY other day. This week I'm on Saturday and Sunday while HT runs the raptor course down south. I'll have to post my Adventures With HT And Wedgies in the community.

(She just rang. I have another magpie to pick up.)

I've managed to educate all my neighbours. They know the peewees hanging around their feet and picking up worms as they garden, and NOT pests to be chased off. They ring me for advice re the best thing to feed wild birds ("Don't, but if you must...")and they know the blue tongues aren't going to attack them.

You can't save every critter, so you do what you can.

Hehe, oh do we get to see the flight from the inside again? Now we get four bouncing around inside the birdie.

Still I have to say the word "Deployment" kind of pulled me up short, but that's just because of my own situation. Good strip, keep them coming.
