Looks like I'll never get to the US now.

If the government tried to do that here there would be revolution and blood will flow in Parliament House. You can take my freedom but you'll never take my Vegemite.

Wait, wait... They're banning it because it's got folate in it?!?! Because it's VITAMIN ENRICHED!? That's just so incredibly... it seems almost vendictive to be spend all that money on enforcement, instead of making an exception to the existing laws.

Oh, I should note...

Some years back, WorldCon was doing a Scottish Theme. They tried to import large amounts of Scotch Whiskey, and Haggis.

The Whiskey made it past customs.

The Haggis was impounded as a "non-food item", and destroyed.

Again, I am tired of having to apologize for my country.

Why do I have a mental image of aussie ex-pats running smuggling rings into the states...
either that or coming up with home-brew recipies.

It'd be like Prohibition all over again... only stickier!

Seriously though, they're banning it because it containes folic acid? Great, so not only do they want more babies [limiting or prohibiting contraceptives in places] but they want deformed babies!

Stickier, and saltier.

Veggie is a massive blast of B group vitamins, like Marmite. It's GOOD for you!

They stopped selling it here a couple years ago, much to the dismay of some Aussie ex-pat friends. No one at the grocery store knew why. That's more fucking retarded than the Canadian "no caffiene in clear soda" laws.

(in other news, PEEWEE-MAFIA.COM isn't showing up in My Domains. When I click on the GoDaddy email it tries to log me in with a different customer number (probably yours) but I don't have the pswd)

Jumpin' Jesus On A Pogo Stick!
HOW STUPID CAN IT GET?!!
By that logic they should have banned Wonder Bread and a bunch of other products long ago. (Not that they have bothered)!
I don't like lima beans. Can I get them banned because I think they are slimy? :D
And just what other more vastly important issues has this been deployed to ditract us from?
:P To the millionth power!

Folate is perfectly fine to put in grain products.

I don't know what makes folate in other products different, but there you go.

With all the crap that US companies add to their foods - high fructose corn syrup and various other things the human body can't digest, not to mention all the vitamins they add to milk with gay abandon - and they're objecting to folic acid? The same folic acid which is recommended in the UK as a supplement for pregnant women and is added to Kellogs Cornflakes and similar as its a useful vitamin/trace element?

Not that I'd touch vegemite with a bargepole mind you, but its a sucky decision.

You know....there's probably a way that lawyers could talk around this. I mean, you don't eat vegemite alone, it's meant to be added to bread. Therefore, this isn't a food spread, it's a food _additive_, etc, etc.
