Yesterday, while I was at work, my cousin took her family to the zoo. These are some of their photos.

I lust after my cousin's husband's digital Nikon and 70-350mm lens.

Diamond Firetail Finch having a birdbath.

Double-bar finch at the birdbath

Mallee fowl scraping more leaf litter onto his nesting mound.

Dingo. One of Polly's ancestoral line.

Big Cats.

Ooooo birdies!:)

Award 1: The finch photo. Capturing a moment in the life of any creature well whether by plan or happenstance makes th winner if you ask me:D. Love the firefinch picture too.

2: The wombat picture makes you long to pick it up ang hug it, which would probably annoy it no end.:D

Wombat hugs will get you scratched and bitten, and told off.

They are friendlier than koalas, which just rip your face off apparently:D. They should do a closeup of the Sydney Funnelweb or better yet the Huntsman spider. And put them into the guidebooks to terrify small children:D.

Heee!

These days, I always think of the would-be thieves who were Foiled in their attempts to steal a koala and went for a croc instead when I see comments like yours about koalas. :D

Sweet shots!

You're lucky with that zoo. Good areas to get clean shots from with no fences between. Thanks for sharing those.

I love my used D1x, and it can take all my older lenses, so I can use my 300mm zoom and even my 600mm cat lens.

Is your avatar, the lens you used to take such pictures?
I have never seen closely a mirrored lens or pictures taken with it, but all the pictures you show seem very good, I can never do something like that with my 70-300mm f5 nikkor.

These photos were taken by my cousin with a 35-200 zoom. The lens in my avatar is my Sigma 600mm mirror lens which I use occasionally.

I heard that mirror lenses are cheap and have fixed aperture, however the quality of the photos taken are much better than many lenses around.
