"Fraudband" is now tied with "weapons-grade pandemonium" on my list of today's favorite new terms.

It's marketed as broadband, but it's well slower than 1MB/S. The Fraudband I'm on right now is 128KB/s up, 256KB/s down. Looks like the fibre pipe to my front door is at least 10 years away.

Due to Testra's bastardry over not sharing its underground cable-runs, my town, and most outside metroplitan areas, doesn't have cable TV by cable. We can get a microwave link or sattelite, both of which cark it during heavy rain.

The upside is that FOX doesn't have any coverage over 80% of the country.

Yay for the upside.

If I didn't live in a non metro area (commiserations) I would read that article and think - there is a possibility that Telescum may lose its stranglehold here. The other companies may get a look in to the market.

This is a Good Thing for the future.

And we're stuck with it because Telstra wasn't able to presuade (read blackmail) the government into getting very slack regulatory laws.

It's most likely that Crook and former CEO of mine's fault. He got out of Qwest before his shenanigans came to light. Not that Nacchio is successor is blameless. At least that rat bastard is up on charges. Solly babe got off scott free. Maybe if Telestra's stock plunges like Qwest's did, he will get his come upppance. :/

Don't complain --- at least it's not dial-up.

They wired everywhere BUT us for either DSL or broadband so I'm stuck with an obsolete line which can't hold a connection.

Better that than nothing.

The only option where I live is dial-up, wireless or satellite. ADSL and broadband by cable are not an option, and I live IN town. When I was on dial-up I was lucky to make 40kb/s, but at least I could hold the connection.

Heh...28.8 max here. Bleh! If I sit long enough, I can watch the data fossilize. None of the other services are offered here and we're in the same boat you are --- Bellsouth doesn't want to share its lines.

Its Time...

Time for telstra to separate into separate business units.
-Countrywide ( cabling and intrastructure)
-Telephones and Mobiles - [putting them on the level playing field with the other telephony providers)
-ISP (Broadband/Dialup/Hosting
