...though I'm still left wondering why people need to euthanase and test a (hypothetically) healthy bat if the person it scratched is supposed to get vaccinated straight away regardless. The only rationalisation I can see for it would be cases such as this where the person scratched isn't being vaccinated - double growl, if that is the reason.
(On the up-side, it turns out wildlife rescuers in Victoria - and I am now signed up to rescue, no longer just to take injured wildlife calls - can get their lyssavirus innoculations free, huzzah!)
