Turtle

I am so bloody pissed off at the moment. I came home from work to find the cover to Shelley's confinement cage open. We had 4 year old Faith visiting while I was at work, and she wanted to play with the turtle. Mum told her not to, it wasn't a pet, and "Dennis is trying to make it better."

Hours later mum discovered the box open and Shelley gone. Faith had wanted to pat the turtle, and in that typical Kids way got distracted by shiney things, or her hair, or some other bloody thing and ran off to do something else, leaving the box open.

I am So Bloody Cranky right now. I had a rant to write about web comics but I can't even think straight at the moment. I'm going to need a six-pack of polar bears.

That particular species is a lot more agile and than the land tortoises that most people are used to.

About 40 years ago I had an almost identical turtle (although without a cracked shell). One day, mine managed to get out of it's pen and later on in the day was eventually found 2 blocks away by some other kids in the neighborhood. I couldn't figure out how it got out, as the pen it was kept in had a 3 foot high chicken wire fence. After I returned it to it's pen, it attempted another prison break, and I retrieved it just about to go over the top of the wire. If I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't have believed it. They are quite strong, and their claws are quite good for climbing. The next day we covered the top of the pen.

I guess when you have a shell, falling isn't that much of a worry;). In terms of short distances, anyway.Sounds like determination, if you ask me.Shelley made her decision based on oppurtunity. She is a wild creature, so I'm not suprised. I just hope the paster can still wear of by itself eventually if she isn't found with her none the worse for wear.

some of the slowest creatures are the best climbers... sloths for examble

Hedgehogs seem to be unharmed from falling when rolled in a ball so they seem fearless when it comes to climbing or jumping from high places. I think turtles likely have the same sort of instincts

Den, I just got done reccomending tazers to zianuray, who is having trouble with children damaging his candle merchandise at craft shows.
