I have just been interviewd by local radio 2DU about the huge mob of flying foxes that have colonized the trees near the centre of town. I probably won't hear it because I can't stand 2DU and the crap they play. Keith Urban should NOT be on a high-rotation play list.

I'll head to the river tomorrow to get some photos.

The town seems to be either interested or disinterested in the bats, but no one is hostile. The fruit growers aren't happy of course. I made a point of saying the bats prefer native foods but forest clearing has meant they have to go for our food crops.

I went down there after work. Looks like there's 1000+ flying foxes in the colony.

I can't tell you how sad the attitudes of some fruit growers are and how inherently selfish some of them are. First of all, the bats food supply is decimated and destroyed, then they expect the bats to starve to death and not eat? Grrr.

Well at least there's noone in your town calling bats a menance and calling for the entire colony of grey headed flying foxes to be wiped out.

God, 1000 bats ^^ I'd love to see that so much. The Australian tourist board should wake up and realise what a fantastic tourist attraction the bats could make if they marketed it
