They cling to the mum's hairy belly until they start to grow spines, then the mum digs a burrow and leaves the baby there.

S/he is definatly nekkid.. Doesnt even look like the beginning of hairs for the spines are out yet. You wont be able to cuddle him/her for long, so snuggle while you can :)

Echidna spines aren't very sharp... you can cuddle even the adults, but not very tight :-)
