It's made of Aluminium. Transparent Aluminium. No one is laughing at Scotty now.

I hope they figure out how to make eyeglasses from this... no more scratches!

That would also depend on its refractive index. If it's too far from normal glass then making the lenses might be impossible. Coatings could still work though.

I must admit the idea of glasses made entirely out of metals does attract me (Titanium frames and aluminium lenses) as they would be light and incredibly tough.
