My camera lens is buggered. My Canon EOS 35-80mm zoom in now a 55ish-70ish zoom, and when I look through the back glass I can see all the elements are skewed. It's been dropped, obviously, and I know which kid/s did it but I didn't see it happen so I can't do anything. I saw them replacing the camera back on the shelf, and when asked what they were doing they replied "Nothing" and doing that bloody innocent face thing that makes you bloody know they were not bloody well doing Nothing.

It'll cost $169 to replace the lens with a 28-80mm.

Their Mum has just bought a Tarago. It's time to tell those kids about Bus Bugs. It won't pay me $169 but I will get some satisfaction knowing those kids will be uncomfortable sitting in the van, expecting a bug to burrow through the aluminium floor and through the seat so it can bite them on the arse.

Y'know, far as I'm concerned, "beyond a reasonable doubt" is for the courtroom, and circumstantial evidence is JUST FINE for meteing out punishment to wayward brats.

Perhaps having a word with said parent? after all, if the kids get away with shit like that, who knows what they'll try next

but then, the bus bugs _would_ be suitable punishment...

... a particularly vicious breed of bus bugs, and who are attracted to young flesh all the more...

If that had happened at church, no one would have batted an eye had I taken off my belt and whupped the kids.

I think such action is reprehensible, but Pastor strongly endorses a "spare the rod, spoil the child" theology. I also think lying, thieving children are reprehensible, so there is a ballance to be found. And I now have parental backing-- sassy children are not allowed to sass me anymore. Their parents explained it to them with me present yesterday.

Have the best

Ummm. If I were a parent I wouldn't like hearing my kids fucked up- but I'd expect to be told. That's a lot of damage for "nothing."

If the parent doesn't punish them or at least ante up I'd sue.

Or keep them out of my house.

It's hardly worth the cost of legal action. Their mum knows what happened and that the kids are not welcome here for some time. It'll hurt them more than it sounds; I have better computers and games than they do at home.

Too bad you don't live closer. I have a PS 2:D. And a PC, and a TV/DVD player. 4 idiot boxes in one place!

Yeah, the pain of having to play PONG instead of the latest graphics and loudly colored technology is a bummer.

Serves them right.

How annoying, to say the least.

Having the lens repaired may be possible and cheaper. Worked for a Nikon lens of mine.

I costed the repairs. The EOS lenses are autofocus, and all the stepping motors mounts and zoom elements were bent.

You might want to think about insuring your camera and lenses. I'm not sure about what options exist in AU, but I've got about $3.5K of camera stuff insured here for about $50/year.

Yep, next step is insurance especially if I take it OS in November. The company is lending me a little digital camera, but at 6mpixels it's just not good enough. I prefer the old negative to CD process until I can buy a good digital camera.
