I love your wildlife photos, this is no exception. But I always wonder what happens with the creatures you care for, if they can't be released back to nature.

Unless they an endangered species they're euthanized. But sometimes they're not. I mean, they are officially euthanized on paper but for some reason rescuers take a liking to an animal. I have a dead pigeon walking around in my yard at the moment.

But we can't keep everything. THere simply isn't enough room. 8(

As for the animals that should be euthanized, what about getting zoos around the world to take some of them? I know the Woodland Park Zoo, here in Washington State, has a large roo exibit (to include a small habitat of tree roos) and were at one time looking for more Aussie animals to add to their Outback Trail of their exhibit.

The zoos here have so many roos they can't give them away. And they don't like wild animals coming into the zoo populations because they bring parasites and diseas. Also, National Parks are very wary of animals being taken from the wild and usually don't permit us to keep them. The exceptions are endangered animals, which will go to a zoo for captive breeding rather than be euthanized.

First thought: Aww, poor little thing.
Second thought: Whoa -- kangaroos have freakishly large toes. I mean, look at the size of his toe compared to his ear!

He's darling! How large will he grow to be? How long will he be with you? Does he get released at some point, or will he always be at a sanctuary? Just glad you were able to save him when he got separated from his mum!

He has already gone to a carer. She will raise him with other roos so when they are released they will have their own pre-formed mob to live with. It takes about 12 months to raise them to release size.
