A friend arrived from Manilla via Hong Kong today, and gave this to me.



A hand carved jade bat.

I shall now commence the Happy Bat dance.

You should look around eBay at some of the carved netsuke beads. Many of them depict bats in beautiful realistic detail. YOur jade pendant reminded me of them.

There are a couple of lines on the wings to represent bones. It's about 50mm from wing-tip to wing-tip.

Bats in the bellfrie

That's a beautiful piece! Oh, you'd appreciate this: I'm making an appointment at the Dept. of Public Health to get the furst 3 rabies shots. Not to work with bats (the Folsom Zoo stopped keeping them for a variety of reasons) but for the skunks we take out to classrooms, with their scent glands removed, of course... Tell me: are those shots in the arm, or the butt?

They're in the arm, but I'm sure you could sweet-talk the nurse into letting you expose your bum at her.

The side effects I felt was like a 3 hour blast of really bad flu: aches, headache, sinuses, general weakness. Then it cleared. You should get someone to drive you home after the shots because you might not feel like it.
