I just came across 2 spams that shit me a lot more than the usual.

One was on a web page. It looked like a blank, grey frame running up the left side of the screen. The frame had the standard windows minimize/maximize/close buttons on the top-right, so I clicked on the close icon.

Just as I clicked I noticed the stats bar flash up a url but I'd seen it too late. I clicked. The ad opened. I right-clicked/closed the window before anything showed. The blank frame was a fucking ad! Bastards

The next was an email. It had a Virus Alert heading, went on about the Goner worm, how the company put out a mail list and supplied a 'click to subscribe' link.

Then- then they said "On to other business..." and started on the usual 'Make $100000000/Second At Home And Be A Millionaire This Instant For Nothing' pyramid scamspam.

The rotten stinking mongrel bastard dogs.

Net advertising has taken a disturbing turn. It is actively itself as something it is not, and has resorted to subterfuge instead of user stupidity to get people in.

I haven't been so pissed off since the conservatives were voted in.

That's their job, to sucker folks in. I think someone's put me on a spam list, because I've been getting an awful lot of it lately, and I used to get barely any. Whoever did that is hopefully going to suffer thrice the annoyance.

I'm lucky, I almost never ever get spam though a pr0n spam full is disguisting images got in the other day. However Mac.com (run by Apple computer) quickly blocks all that shit forever after that. I've not seen it again so I'm keeping my fingers crossed :P But on the whole I get a spam that sneaks through the blockade maybe every 2-3 months. Not too bad really!

As for banner ads hidden on a page, I so fucking hate that... I've seen several sites which set up blank areas on the page as banner ad links in case you accidently click there. Usually right up next to the scroll bar for those accidental misses when trying to scroll. Then there are pop under ads... even worse! Oh and according to Slashdot, there is a new from of irritation coming soon to a browser near you... ads which transparently display OVER the page you are trying to read. They last a few seconds before vanishing so you can go back to browsing. They are flash based so they only work if you have IE or some other browser with Flash plugged in.

So today I got fed up with it all... for here at work I got the Proxomitron!
Go to http://proxomitron.cjb.net/ and install the software, its free. What does it do? Well it basically installs a simple proxy server on your local machine. You tell your browser to use it as a proxy server (the instructions tell you how, its easy peasy) and it filters out every last bit of that fucking shit. I've installed it on my NT here at work and I already love it. I am going to look for a similar product for my Mac when I get home.
