I like the last one. what's the top? Just another cloud or funnel stuff?

It's called a "cloud-cap" and forms when cumulonimbus fist push up into the stratosphere. They only last a few minutes before the cumulo blasts out all over the place.

Dubbo is not known for its mountains, so I have to wait for a thunderstorm to brew up.

There was a slow movement of upper air from left to right, with the cumulo forming a barrier the strato-air had to go around. about 5 minutes after I took this the cap was gone because the cumulonumbus burst out all over the place and started to form an anvil.

I finally saw one myself the summer after my Sophomore year in college. I was really excited to see it, until I realized it was straight ahead of me on the highway down which I was barrelling. Yeep!

*Grins* Oh, trust me. I know all about Tornados. I have a dread fascination for them. But knowledge tends to fail when you see something wild and uncontrolable that terrifies you in real life. ;)

Regardless, it was over the horizon and made landfall in east Cheyenne. I turned on the radio only to hear the NWS release a tornado warning after it had gone back up into the cloud and all gyration had stopped.

Oh, btw... great pics, Batty!

[livejournal.com profile] tavella: I'm reading your icon as "Lwara" (it has to be in Quenya mode, you've got the "has a vowel after it" form of "r" in there). But I don't know Quenya mode very well, so I might be misreading the "w"-letter. What does it mean?

[livejournal.com profile] dewhitton: I was going to ask for wallpaper permission, too... Apart from the interesting formation catch, I adore those particular tones blue to pieces.

It's 'Laura', or as close as I could approximate in Quenya mode at the time -- I think I went by pronounciation more than the exact spelling.

As soon as I saw the first line of the notification e-mail that went "Laura (tavella) replied to your LiveJournal comment in which you said..." I had a "D'oh!" moment.

Even when writing in English mode going by pronounciation the best way, I think. (If I were to write this usericon now, instead of back when I first started learning, I'd probably use a long vowel carrier instead of the doubles, even though that doesn't technically change anything.)

At any rate: Nice.

I preferred the Sindaran form, but it has been many years since I was able to read tengwar fluently. I can still read English runes.

Take what you want to iconize. I don't mind.

Nice

Oh, how I would LOVE to do some lightning research around those bad boys... Y'know; send some rockets up trailing fine wire tied to an earth terminal (or "ground" terminal to us Yanks).

Truly beautiful stuff, this.

Yeah! To call down lightning at the touch of a button. Or to fly high enough to research the Sprites.

Hehe, playing with the camera again? I just got a Cannon Digital EOS Rebel SLR (6.3 mp) last night. So I should get some interesting shots myself now :)

I'm still stuck with film, but the processing lab does a direct neg to CD transfer. Which is nice.
