Looks like a kingfisher of some sort?
kookaburra?
tawny frogmouth dude?

Fully grown Sacred Kingfisher. A really PISSED OFF sacred kingfisher.

Special Action Figure Froggy Mode!

I'm getting good at this bird thingy.
Today I saw a little blue heron that was white, a great blue heron in flight, a tricolored heron looking for lunch and 2 egrets - i had a hunch

Ooh I'm going to give you such a pinch.

[identity profile] jim-lane.livejournal.com 2005-01-30 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Bird says, "GET THAT FINGER OUTTA MY MOUTH---!"

[identity profile] dewhitton.livejournal.com 2005-01-30 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
more like "Bastard! BASTARD! I HATE YOU AAAAAAGH!" The little kingfisher was very cranky.

[identity profile] jim-lane.livejournal.com 2005-01-30 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
If some 50-foot high monster was poking its finger down YOUR throat, you might become a bit "cranky", too---!

*hehehe!!!*

Of course, kingfishers aren't known for being all that "sociable", either...

Ciao!

So do you have a fake finger on that hand now, or what? Those things are vicious :)

[identity profile] dewhitton.livejournal.com 2005-01-30 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
It was the only way I could stop him from pecking holes in my hands. The beak edges are so sharp that he could nip off little folds of skin, as though he had a pair of scissors. Stuffing a whole finger in there was far less painful.

This is why I wear gloves.

[identity profile] dewhitton.livejournal.com 2005-01-30 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
They're so small I can't feel them through gloves. I have the same problem with microbats.

[identity profile] atara.livejournal.com 2005-01-30 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Kookaburra, I think.

[identity profile] dewhitton.livejournal.com 2005-01-30 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Sacred Kingfisher. Kookaburras are the size of bantam chickens.

[identity profile] oceansedge.livejournal.com 2005-01-30 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
right face - wrong colour for a kookaburra no? Is it one of those blue bird things we saw at the Western Plains Zoo?

[identity profile] oceansedge.livejournal.com 2005-01-30 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
OOps see your kingfisher answer now :)

[identity profile] erin-c-1978.livejournal.com 2005-01-30 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
That is an amazingly beautiful bird! And also, ow.

[identity profile] weyrdbird.livejournal.com 2005-01-30 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
No Egrets?!

Us birdies are living in the HERON now, bub!:D

When the bird eventually gets released, will it be a King Fling Thing?

That is a gorgeous picture, even if the Kingfisher is hell bet on making his absence possible :).

[identity profile] beki.livejournal.com 2005-01-30 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
Cool kingfisher.. but why were you trying to feed him your finger? I have heard of giving someone the finger before, but I dont think thats what they meant :)

[identity profile] griffen.livejournal.com 2005-01-30 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
BOOODY! :)

[identity profile] tatterdemalion.livejournal.com 2005-01-30 04:01 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] silmaril.livejournal.com 2005-02-22 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
...and reading back even more, I'm enjoying this a lot. You've got a wonderful journal.

Mind if I put you on my regular reading list?

I don't mind at all. 8)
