There is a creeping tendency on the part of software producers to make it such that their product will not work unless the machine is connected to the Internet.

A case in point can be found at:-

http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/info_lic_val.html

The License Validation system is based on the periodical exchange of encrypted keys between the computer hosting the TMPGEnc software above and our server through Internet. Therefore, an Internet access is required to allow the system to function correctly.

------------------------

My computer is not connected to Internet, is there a solution to use your software anyway?

 No.

Do you or will you provide a version of your software without License Validation?

 No.

There are cracks for your software, your Validation System is useless!

 Pegasys, Inc. is not liable for any kind of damage subsequent to the modification of the software service and reserves the right to engage any legal action against the author, distributor or user of such modified software or modification method.

=================================================

This isn't spyware but it's an insight into the future where software won't work on a machine not connected to the Internet.
