Bearded Dragon
4 January 2005 17:47I took the bearded dargon out to the zoovets. She seemed very sleepy despite being warm. Benn The Vet said she seemed a little... fat. He felt her and went "Hmmm."
"What?"
"Well, either she has four very hard kidneys or she's full of eggs." He handed the lizard over to me and I had a feel along her belly. There were fourhard lumps in her belly just in front of her hind legs.
Ten minutes later the new mum was in a warm box with a thick layer of sandy substrate and an IR light. All the vets gathered around and made baby noises at her even though she a) hadn't laid the eggs and b) was a lizard.Benn said they'd x-ray her tomorrow to see how things were. I asked if he'd let me have a copy.

Date: 4 Jan 2005 14:25 (UTC)How long does it take a bearded dragon or other lizard to produce eggs, and how long to they keep them in their body before they lay them? The other day, someone asked me a similar question in re: the big scaly fire-breathing type of dragon, and I couldn't find much useful info on the Web."Egg Production" and similar Google searches might, if you're lucky, scare up a little bit of info about AVIAN ovigenesis, but I found very little about reptilian production times.
