The rats with wings walking flock





One of the many peewee chicks I raised this season.


If it moves, food will come. No harm in begging at everything, including camera flashes.

Looking at the pictures (or maybe it's the angle), Aussie pigeons look a lot different than those I'm used to seeing here in Edmonton (Canada). They look more like doves with pigeon markings. Cool.

These two have some domesticated pigeon in their ancestry, but they are quite wild. They're not natives. Doves here are half that size and a pale grey.

I was about to say that the Peewee looks cute, but then I saw the second picture of it. No wonder parent birds feed them, it's the only way they can get into the nest. :)

The one on the left would look right at home in any city in Britain, the natural variation in our feral pigeon poulation gives us white, grey and brown in any and all combinations, but the one on the right looks like it's got some strange ancestry. Was its mother scared by a magpie by any chance?
