Like [livejournal.com profile] charlesI've been spammed by a spam that starts

"WE DEEPLY APOLOGIZE IF THIS E-MIAL COST YOU ANY INCONVENIENT."

What really, really gives me the shits is the next bit, which says

"THIS IS NOT SPAM: "

oh yes it is.

It is unsolicited commercial email. How dare this arsehole try to say otherwise. The kicker is the bit that explains why it isn't spam.

"You or someone using your ip address posted to my free website or visited it sometime recently."

So fucking what? If... if I looked at this twat's site it does not give him the right to spam me. Twice. I don't even know what the homepage was, but what ever way you cut this, it's a spam pyramid.

So let me get this straight. He swam through his site logs, and figured out your email addy from your ip addy.

I'm impressed!

Usually statements like that are a "cover-my-arse" type of strategy... though attempting to claim that an email addy can be inferred by an ip, and that contact with the latter somehow allows access to the former, is the most bizarre one I think I've seen yet.

besides the fact that courtesy of DHCP, ANY user that connects to the same POP as you can have *YOUR* IP address (well at least the one you were using at that time) at any given time.. :-)
