Broadband for Den!

Because I live in such a remote area, I am eligable for a government subsidy that will get me a satellite broadband link. 512k downlink from orbit, 256 uplink via ISDN. Installation is normally $700, but with the subsidy it's $129.

I'm probably eligible for the same HiBIS subsidy, but hopefully I can just get ADSL after this finishes up.

My actual attenuation is equal to the current allowable (theoretical) limit of 56.0dB.

You should be eligable if they decide you can't get ADSL. Those of us in the wilds of East Dubbo are eligable.

I don't know if I'll be able to get it or not after the trial. 500MB of data per month is really tight though.

500MB is about what I pick up a month. I don't go birko downloading stuff.

You'd be suprised what you'd do if you had the bandwidth...

Even 500 a day is a little tight <.

lucky bastard, granted, I qualify for HiBIS, but I'm not gonna try for satellite broadband, as it's use is somewhat unsuitable for my needs.

and the other options aren't available in my house, still

Speaking as someone who has satellite, probably pay *more* than anyone else. But hey, beats dialup... except in foul weather. Or when they screw up and cut your connection. Or when the software malfunctions.

It's great waiting half a second for the signal to go up there and bounce back down again too =P

Of course, it doesn't really matter if all you plan to do is download.
