I saw on a news sound-bite that John Kerry says this is the time for you Americans to hold President Bush accountable.(if the bite wasn't taken out of context)

No no no no NO!

This is the time for Bush and Kerry to stand side by side on the same podium and say to Bin Laden "Screw you and the donkey you rode in on."

Agreed! I didn't see that - of late I've gotten in the habit of studiously ignoring all political programming within a week of the election. Next time around I may extend it to TWO. Sheesh...

Though I did make an exception in one case. A local race involves two candidates, one of whom has been bombarding us with slick mailers about what an awful person the other candidate is. The other candidate finally sent us a mailer. It shows a Lichtenbergish cartoon of a alarmed woman reading a mailer "[name of politician] causes earthquakes in California!" THAT was funny.

That option was eliminated when the only reaction from the Bush camp was to call the Osama video "a little gift" to their campaign.

"We want people to think 'terrorism' for the last four days," said a Bush-Cheney campaign official. "And anything that raises the issue in people's minds is good for us."
A senior GOP strategist added, "anything that makes people nervous about their personal safety helps Bush."

It almost makes you think they have the bearded one parked in a cellar in the US and sat him down in front of a video camera specially... I mean the timing is terrible.

I don't believe for the first second that this was coincidental timing. Now whether the Bushies had the tape and leaked it at an appropriate time for their own use, or Bin Laden is too stupid to realize that he's actually bolstering the Bush side is a big question, but I'm a whack-job when it comes to politics (and other things too, I'm told). *grin*

Bush's responce was actually a lot more bi-partisan:

But that would require statesmen, and all we have is a bunch of damned politicians. No, not even politicians, lawyers.

You know the type? The honest one is one that, once bought, stays bought? That will believe anything his client pays him to believe? Win at any price and to hell with the public good? If you have evidence on your side, use the evidence. If it's against you, attack it. If you can't attack the evidence, attack the witness-- or in this case, the opposing politician. THAT kind of lawyer, that kind of politician.

The only bright spot in all this is that the Republic is probably strong enough to survive even THOSE two bozos.

Actually, if you listen to Bush's responce, it is a bi-partisan rejection:

Earlier today I was informed of the tape that is now being analyzed by America's intelligence community. Let me make this very clear: Americans will not be intimidated or influenced by an enemy of our country. I'm sure Senator Kerry agrees with this.

I also want to say to the American people that we're at war with these terrorists and I am confident that we will prevail.

Thank you very much. Thank you.
