Mathers, Jackson and Yankovic

Back in May Eminem refused to give Weird Al Yankovic permission to do a parody video of "Lose Yourself" and refused permission to allow Yankovic to release the parody as a single.

So this week Eminem releases a filmclip featuring a parody of Michael Jackson.

When you open the dictionary at "hypocrisy" you'll see a photo of Marshal Mathers.

After this and the whole Coolio foofaraw, maybe Al should get the idea that today's rap stars are assholes, and possibly this could lead to the realization that putting new words to something with no melody is kind of ineffective in the first place. Maybe he could even realize that he's become a nostalgia act and stop limiting himself to the very latest of the lowest common denominator. Do I need to hear a new take on Erica Simpson or William Hung or whoever it is they're playing on the radio now? No! I don't listen to that crap! And the people who do aren't much interested in seeing their gods punctured. Al should just go back through the '80s for some of the songs he missed the first time through. Or earlier! And he shouldn't need the subject matter of the latest hit movie as an excuse.

His two most recent albums are about 50% parody, 50% original songs. I find them amusing.

As for Hung and Simpson, I know they're famous but I'm not entirely sure why. I must have missed soemthing recently pop-culture.

I've noticed that Al's last album wasn't all that great and yes, It does seem to be a bit down hill. But that reflects that fact that most new music today is utter crap.

It's either cheezy pop songs or whiney rock ballads. It would be nice if he did go back for some older stuff I think.

However Al does have his moments even with some of the rap songs as Couch Potato was really good IMO. He even makes country sound good with the My Baby's in Love with Eddie Vedder. But his funniest moments with some rap and pop have been in his polka versions of them.

But anyway, if you don't like his current stuff, write him or email him. From what I understand he loves to hear from and listens to his fans. If enough people ask for something, I'm sure he will give it a try.

Nitpick -- the "Eddie Vedder" song is not country, no way, nohow. It's zydeco! You wouldn't hear something in that style played on any country radio station; they consider it music suitable only for hicks. Irony, anyone?

Well, yeah Eminem is like that. But I can't say I have any sympathy for Michael Jackson either.

Someone needs to get a 30.06, take careful aim and put what remains of his nose out of it's misery.
