We went to see The Bourne Supremacy last night. The four of us were the only ones in a 70 seat cinema.Everyone got their favourite seat.

Not a bad movie, but it could have been MUCH better if the camera was held by someone other than the work-experience kid.

The shaky-camera look is very popular these days here. Many of the TV crime shows use it to demonstrate that they're "gritty" (as opposed to "well-written," or "otherwise interesting to watch").

On the big screen it leads to sea-sickness.

In The Bill they use the hand held technique when they follow a pair of officers through the police station, through doors, up and down stairs etc. Some of the takes are 2+ minutes long. The camera is obviously hand held but they use a steadycam to dampen most of the movements. I haven't watched The Bill since the BBC decided to soap it up.

In the early episodes of NYPD it looked like they were adding in gratuitous camera shakes to make it look Gritty And Realistic. It didn't. It just looked bad.
