Yesterday my left ankle did its "Remind Den How Much He Abused Me By Falling Off The Glacier In NZ" and made it very difficult to walk, stand and such. Last night anything that twisted it hurt a lot, so something as simple as thrashing around in my sleep woke me up. I didn't get much sleep.

This arvo a friend offered to massage it, and since I never say "no" to a massage I let her. It took a long time to get going. "Relax. Relax more! Does this hurt? Relax! Now does this hurt? Relax! And stop going 'Aarg!'" Eventually the massage started to do some good, and after 30 minutes the ankle actually felt better. After an hour I could actually walk without a limp.

The ankle is still there and feels quite fragile, like it's waiting for me to mis-step so it can do its impression of knives stabbing into the joint. I have a horrible feeling I might have some arthritus in there.

(my ankles were never the same after a certain bush walk either...)

Fortunately the arthritis I've suffered from in my feet since my mid 20's, has never been toooooooo bad (knock wood). Mostly takes about 30 mins or so before I can walk normal in the morning, and I'm very prone to going over on them and injurying them more. Foot massages are gifts from the Gods.

I've found that taking 2000 mg of Glucosamine a day has managed to keep my incipent arthritis under control. I started taking it right after leaving Monterey, and had in fact ascribed the releife in my aching joings to the departure from Monterey's year-round cold and damp -- until I ran out of glucosamine, and after about a week, the pain returned.

Not fun. You may want to wrap the ankle for the next few days to avoid a mis-step. Or, find a lawyer and sue the glacier (don't forget the 'pain and suffering' part.;)

I could probably go the glacier for carelessly leaving piles of lateral morain for people to slide off. Luckily I slid into a stream of glacial melt-water so I got the cold pack onto the injury faster than you would normally.

This was 4 years ago. My ankle still blames me for it.

Ah - I thought it was a recent occurance - turns out to be 'an old friend'.

Never mind my first comment then - just keep your eye on the statute of limitations.

Yay, getting massaged by a girl!

I dunno, you could get it x-rayed or see a chiropractor or something. I never really had backaches until I did a lot of moving. Then, it seemed to get better until I kinda fell off a building. I'm not sure how long my "hope it goes away" method will work.

Four years is a lot, too...
