Microsoft has released, or will be soon, SP2 for XP. It can be downloaded from their site.

I am on a dial-up connection that never connects faster than 40Kbps, and has a download speed that never exceeds 3kbps. So, how big is that service pack? Anyone want to guess how long it'll take me to download? Looks like I'll have to pass until MS issue it as a freebie C, like their last one.

I downloaded the entire patch the other day from a commercial website. It was 266 megabites. However, depending on your machine, it could be only 50mb or so. It might be worth visiting a local university or library to download if you can get a faster connection.

It's about 270mb. Even at 3kbps, that's only about a day to download it. Latch your paws on Getright, or some other download manager and let 'er rip.

270mb would chew up 55% of my monthly download limit, which I come close to exceeding every month.

bugger.

I'd prefer a mail-out anyway.

Den, I've got a package of CD-Rs ready to send to you. I'll add another with the SP2 download. Should be in the mail tomorrow or Thursday.

That one big download will update all of the XP versions. The disc is burned and should go in the mail today along with the other discs I said I'd send.

Oops, that's right. It's been so long since I was on dial-up, I'd forgotten about that aspect of it.

Drop me a line (mailto:hendikins@mozdev.org), and I'll mail you a CD with it (or, if you want other stuff too, a DVD-R of stuff).

I've heard that it's around 80MB. If it would help, I'd be happy to burn SP2 to a CD and mail it to you.

The full installer (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en) is 266MB. You can't burn anything else to a CD either, unfortunately. Now to grab it on my parents' cable connection (I want it for myself too).

If you'll note, that's the Pro and dev installer for multiples. The single version is a bit smaller, according to my sources.

I would've expected the "single" version to be like the NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 "single" installers like it, fetching required files from the internet at installation time?

Anyway, getting off-topic here, so I'll keep quiet...

Single version is 80MB or more, depending on how up-to-date your OS is on patches. As far as I know, it's burnable as a full install, but I'm checking with my personal MS guru to be sure of that.

Just a lone voice having had to deal with the wonderful results of Microsoft's packs and patches... may I suggest you wait a month or so, till they come out with the fix for this service pack? (It may "conflict" with anti-virus software.)

Yeah, from what I'm reading it's like all V1.0 microsoft products, and causes almost as many problems as it fixes.
