The little raptor is a black kite, and is now in a comfy warm box at the raptor rehab place where it's quiet and the dead mice arrive on demand.

I'm not sure why I like this image so much, but I really do. Maybe it's because it gives me hopeful thoughts about the baby bird I rescued (?) a few weeks ago.

Room Service!:)

And since it's normal and healthy, the staff will be answering the room service button about 40 times a day. Young raptors eat a *lot*:D. Free room service is a major boon to the young.

my friend who took him has experience with hawks, kites, kestrels, harriers, eagles, gosshawks, falcons and hobbies, so she knows what she's getting into.

Maybe I should start a Live Journal for my rescued animals to make entries in.

"Went for a test fly tonight. Meals worms for dinner. Again."

LOL! I think if I started one for the golden eagle we have at Shaver's Creek it would be more like "They're still afraid of me... hehehehehe... keep the venison strips coming or it'll be your hands!" She's somewhat ornery, but not horribly so around me. We can't feed her chicks or mice because she has some beak damage (it looks like a crossbill's beak; she was caught on electrical wires and the damage occurred while repairing the skin), so she gets strips of beef or venison with some oyster shell and Vitahawk added. Maybe someday I'll get to handle her, but I'll have to work my way up to that. Biggest bird I've ever seen.

What about a community for The Rescued? Any animal, bird or reptile rescued and in care can post their thoughts :) I met a sea eagle who's entries would all read "THE BASTARDS!" I've never before seen a bunch of raptor handlers who were so scared of one bird. They named her Lucretia, and were very happy to let her go.

I looked up some pictures on the internet of black kites... pretty birds. Dead mice on demand are awesome (I'm usually the delivery guy around here)! I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of the one you rescued: we don't have that species around here.
