Date: 6 Feb 2004 13:34 (UTC)No explanation. Just "Waitangi Day".
No clue.
No clue at all.
I asked aloud "What's Waitangi Day?"
Nobody in the office knew. Nobody had any sort of clue at all. A bit of Google informed me that it was a holiday in New Zealand, but no other information. So, I got silly and drew Jack singing a song about New Zealand in a comic strip. I mentioned it to a few other cartoonists and it got mentioned in their strips too, just for silliness's sake. :)
Then one of the folks in my office brought in a cake for Waitangi Day, and we had some fun.
But mostly it's fun because if you have no idea what it's about, it's just a fun word. "Waitangi! Waitangi! Waitangi!" :D
So this year, I drew Jenny in the traditional NZ dancing costume. They dance with little white Poi Balls on strings, sort of like ribbon dancers. It's very graceful. :)
