Royal Australian Mint announces the release of the new holographic $1 coin.



They will be available in the proof sets. I wonder if they'll hit circulation with the standard $1 coins.

If you find out how much it costs, let me know, I might send some money for you to get one and ship it here. I have a coin collecting friend who would be very surprised with one of these for his birthday :)

If you go to http://mintissue.ramint.gov.au/mintissue/product.asp?code=801401 you'll see they are AU$80 for the set, or AU$72 is you buy from off shore.
