I remember when Lasers started appearing in a big way. At first they were a Lab thing that scientists played around with. "Hey! We can bounce them off mirrors on the moon!" was pretty cool. "Hey we can make holograms!" was bloody amazing I wanted the one that exploded things. Scientists had them. The thing went ZAP and the target went BLAM! I wanted a laser, preferably in a handy gun so I could explode things. ZAP! ZAP! ZAP!
Now I have 3 lasers. 3!
Two of them are mounted in little boxes, and shine through revolving mirrors. They create a flat disc of red light and are used to take levels during surveys.
The third is on a key ring and is used to point at screens and things.
What a let down.

LASERS
Date: 27 Nov 2003 08:19 (UTC)The most powerful laser I've used was a water-cooled berilium-glass Krypton/Argon gaseous laser that registered an amazing 5 watts (a lot for a laser). If you focused it on a piece of paper for about 10 seconds it would set it alight. Limited usefulness, unless, of course, I could focus it on certain selected private parts of my enemies. Hmmm... Slower can be better... Bugger...
