Lasers

I remember when Lasers started appearing in a big way. At first they were a Lab thing that scientists played around with. "Hey! We can bounce them off mirrors on the moon!" was pretty cool. "Hey we can make holograms!" was bloody amazing I wanted the one that exploded things. Scientists had them. The thing went ZAP and the target went BLAM! I wanted a laser, preferably in a handy gun so I could explode things. ZAP! ZAP! ZAP!

Now I have 3 lasers. 3!

Two of them are mounted in little boxes, and shine through revolving mirrors. They create a flat disc of red light and are used to take levels during surveys.

The third is on a key ring and is used to point at screens and things.

What a let down.

Hehe, well, much as I also wanted lasers which blew things up, now I don't. Why? Because I eventually learned that with such lasers, any reflection which happens to beam even a glancing blow back at you could make you go boom as well. Well, maybe not boom even, you might just suddenly have a limb fall off. That or your eyes will pop like grapes.
