The best meat pies in Australia are made at the Village Hot Bake, Dubbo, according to the judges of the national bake-off. The Hot Bake is my supplier of curry meat pies and sausage rolls. I notice a new chicken-and-apricot pie on their menu. Time to check it out again.

I took hopeforyou, sinboy and mikz for a pre-zoo breakfast there.

I'm seriously going to have to visit Dubbo one day then. I mean, I cannot get a good meat pie in Sydney at all. It's almost enough to make me want to move back to Newcastle ;)

Meat Pies

I was introduced to them by an Aussie engineer I worked with in the Silicon Valley. There was an Aussie restaraunt run by a gruff old guy from Queensland. They had a poster from the movie "Ned Kelly" hanging on the wall, and a plush, full-sized roo sitting in the corner. Corny, I know...

The best part was when he showed me the proper way to eat a meat pie: you take the pointed catsup dispenser, jam it down into the top of the pie, and proceed to half-fill the thing with catsup. Then you devour it. Yummy!
