Today I actually added something to the Proximitron ad and pop-up filter. Now, when I type in a wrong URL I get the message "Connection Killed!" instead of the Verisign search page. I'm rather pleased about that. My eyes don't even accidentally see the page and their little tracking cookies never have a chance. Hooray!

Tracking cookies?

Every time I've deliberately tried to get to that page, it's been so swamped I've timed out. *grin*

Register article: http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/32926.html

I'm amused that Verisign accidentally slashdotted themselves.

Interesting. The only cookie that gets set on my browser when I go to the page is a cookie for sitefinder.verisign.com called s_cc with a value of true. Hardly an effective web bug, and certainly not from the overture site that the Register is talking about.

I wonder if Verisign removed it after the Register's article?

Regardless, I've now set Mozilla to refuse sitefinder's cookies.
